The name of the Ai-Yori rock is translated from the Crimean Tatar as St. George, probably from the name of the ancient church named after St. George the Victorious, which was once located here in a wide interval from the 7th to the 13th century and was part of the distant possessions of the principality of Theodoro. During the Second World War, the Alushta partisan detachment was based here. To commemorate this event, a monument to the partisans was erected here in 1968, which has been reconstructed today. A multitude of minerals and elements necessary for the human body makes the water of the Ai-Yori spring unique, with healing properties.
If you look at Mount Babugan, then at the middle level you can see a stone ledge, which is the Ai-Yori rock. Several main routes lead to the goal. The most convenient route can be considered the route from the village of Vinogradnoye, which can be reached in 10 minutes from Alushta in the direction of Yalta. Next, you will find an unforgettable 5-kilometer trail, along which you can also ride an off-road vehicle or horses. At any time of the year, the trail will create comfortable conditions for walking.
In summer, the beech-hornbeam forest will provide a cool shade from the scorching sun, and in rainy and windy weather the trees will protect you from rain and wind. As you ascend, the trail will give you unforgettable views of Alushta and its surroundings, as well as ask riddles in the form of numerous forks, from which you need to choose the right one. Not far from the goal on the right you are greeted by Mount Siraus, which, like the Ai-Yori rock, is an igneous rock, as well as Mount Kastel, which can be seen from the village of Vinogradnoye. It should be noted that most of the route is located on the territory of the Alushta forestry and hunting economy. Therefore, it is not uncommon to meet with roe deer and other representatives of the Crimean fauna. The Crimean Nature Reserve begins immediately behind the spring, where the concentration of wild animals is noticeably increasing.
You will immediately realize that you are at your goal, as the spring is equipped with places for rest, a 9-meter reconstructed tower, a bathhouse, an artificial waterfall and a font. All this was done by the efforts of the workers of the Alushta forestry. Here you can take a bath. Only for this it is necessary to find dry firewood and light the stove. But these efforts will not be in vain. After a hot bath, you can plunge into a cold, specially equipped hot tub. If you are hungry, you can light a specially equipped fire and cook yourself from tea to barbecue on the grill. The water itself is unique here, because changes its chemical composition twice a year. This miracle is explained by the fact that during heavy rains, the spring begins to feed not only on deep underground water, but also on surface rainwater. Moreover, it can even be determined by taste. The popularity of the source, and of the water itself, is evident. Almost every day people come in off-road vehicles and stock up on tens of liters of healing water.
It is believed that a silver cross was previously found in the water collector, which disinfected water. Also, you will find an unusual 9-meter tower, inside which you cannot enter without a high staircase. This tower was reconstructed according to ancient drawings. After you enjoy the water and the whole recreation complex, you can get to the very rock of Ai-Yori, which is 400 meters from the source. It contains a memorial plaque with a commemorative inscription of partisans, as well as a memorial book, a monument and a flag at the very top. If you climb this rock, you will get a unique 360-degree view. From here you can see the mountains Babugan, Chatyrdag, Demerdzhi, the southeastern coast of Crimea up to Sudak, as well as the southwestern coast up to Ayu-Dag. Tourists often use this place for selfies and group photos. Not uncommon - you can see this background on photo fridge magnets.
You can get to Alushta by a path that turns left. This is a steeper descent than if you came back, but more eventful. Extreme cyclists love this path. Therefore, next to the footpath, you can see the bike path and jumps. In the middle of the path, the beech-hornbeam forest is replaced by a coniferous-oak forest. Mushrooms can often be found at the right time. The end of the route passes through stone henge - concentric stones. Finally, Alushta will meet you with a vineyard with the opportunity to taste one of the Crimean grape varieties to balance the energy expended.

Ai-Yori is one of the most popular routes for guests and residents of Alushta. The road itself requires some physical preparation, so it's best to practice before you decide on such a trip. Also, the water in the spring is very cold, so you need to have a change of linen and a good towel with you to wipe yourself off after swimming.
